Nella giornata di ieri abbiamo segnalato, con questo focus, come ATI abbia presentato la propria tecnologia Stream Computing, che utilizza GPU Radeon X1900 per incrementare la potenza di calcolo a fini di ricerca scientifica.

Una delle prime implementazioni di questa tecnologia è un nuovo client Folding@Home, versione 5.05 beta XP GPU, che abilita il supporto alle GPU ATI della serie Radeon X1900 e Radeon X1950 nell'elaborazione Folding. Il client può essere scaricato a questo indirizzo.

ATI ha inoltre rilasciato un set di driver beta, versione Catalyst 6.10 per sistemi operativi Windows a 32bit, che devono essere utilizzati in abbinamento a questo nuovo client Folding@Home; il download è accessibile a questo indirizzo.

Folding@Home is a project developed by Stanford University that uses the power of your graphics processor to simulate protein folding. With a thorough understanding of how protiens fold, the scientific community will better understand the causes for many diseases and cancers - the first steps required for finding the cure.

You must download and install Catalyst Beta 6.10 to run the GPU accelerated Folding@Home client on your PC.
