Quote:
When I said "the goal was over-estimated", I wanted to say that it was too high in the context of the Kickstarter, according to backer expectations and given the content we showed.
I believe that a lot of creators actually have no choice than to lower their funding goal in order to succeed but may struggle to develop the game at the end if they do not go far beyond their initial goal.
I also think that there's also the psychologic barrier of not funding a goal which is too high and to the contrary, be excited to make the project go beyond its funded goal.
The goal must also be adjusted according to eventual other source of financing. That's not easy but at least we have more metrics now
Quote:
We didn't want to bother people with numbers but indeed the project is huge, and as you said it's not just about graphics environment. There are about 30 characters plus the derivated ones and something like 1000 character animations, +6000 animation for dialogs. All this must be redone from scratch together with a new lifelike locomotion system and improved AI.
Quote:
Fresh3D have been supported by the CNC 6 years ago for other projects. We plan to submit Outcast for the next commission (in september) as the previous commission was 2 days ago (5/5/14). You need to bring on the table at least 65% of the funds and this is recoverable advances. Therefore you must succeed your Kickstarter before applying.

Quote:
Hello everyone. Since the end of the Kickstarter campaign, we've been working on evaluating new technologies to incorporate into the project and how we could improve our workflow given the few resources we now have. Our goal is to provide you guys with a playable demo, with up to date content. Most of us unfortunately have to split their time between regular work and this project, so it will take time but we're working on it.

Quote:
Outcast.
A while ago I told you guys about the amazing game called Outcast. Outcast was released in 1999 and the game was a revolution at itself. It featured a massive world, immense gameplay, great storytelling, beautiful graphics, real life-like AI and much much more.

Unfortunately, the publisher Infogrames which hold the rights of the original game went bankrupt before Outcast 2 could see the light of day and with it the franchise was put to a hold. However, hope was revived when in 2013 the original developers, now called Fresh3D, bought back the rights of the game with the plan to revive Outcast. From there, they started a Kickstarter to create a HD reboot of the game but unfortunalty the Kickstarter failed because the needed funds were not met. After that setback it got awefully quiet but Fresh3D was secretly still working on Outcast.

Today, the moment of my silence is over and I am glad to announce that Outcast is definately coming back!

In the very near future, Outcast v1.1 will be released through various gaming platforms which will be announced later. Many additions and tweaks have been made to the game and it looks better than ever! I'll provide the information here on the quickssilverrgaming Facebook page when Outcast v1.1 is available for purchase.

The last few months I posted small and secret messages that I knew more than I could say about Outcast and now is the time to tell you what this was all about:
After the Kickstarter, some members of Fresh3D approached me asking advice on some topics and even allowing me to test two builds of the coming v1.1 version of the game with me providing feedback to them. This was an amazing opportunity and it really is an eye-opening experience to see the changes being done to the game with the release of every new build.

I would like to seize this moment to thank Fresh3D for giving me this amazing opportunity and wish them all the luck in the world with reviving the Outcast franchise!

Quote:
There is indeed new information about Outcast and I was given permission today to share it! The last few months Fresh3D is working hard with the resources they have to further develop Outcast and I can inform you that probably within a week, Outcast v1.1 is released on various gaming platforms like Steam, GoG.com and probably others as well.

Outcast v1.1 is the same game that launched back in 1999 but with a lot of tweeks, improvements and a few new additions in gameplay. This version has also been altered to work on modern day computers with ease. Let it be clear that Outcast v1.1 is not the reboot Fresh3D has hoped to produce because of the failed Kickstarter BUT...they will continue to release future updates through the various gaming platforms mentioned above when you purchase the game.

Outcast v1.1 is the definitive name for now as far as I can tell because again, it is not the reboot they wanted to make for us gamers. But Fresh3D has made something really clear to me: Outcast v1.1 is the first step in reviving the Outcast franchise! They really want to create more than this improved version of the original Outcast and there are some more ideas for future projects but it all depends how Outcast v1.1 will go in the future.

The above mentioned is all I can say right now but when I have more information then I will share it asap. Thanks for the support everyone on behalf of me and Fresh3D!

Quote:
Hehe that's right! Probably within a week, Outcast v1.1 will be available for purchase on Steam and other gaming platforms

Quote:
I can confirm that there are many more resolution options in Outcast v1.1.

Also the graphics are update but unfortunately not as much as the Reboot HD would have provided us. Just to give you a little hint: Start up the old original Outcast and (the new) Outcast v1.1 ...and look in the distant background

Fresh3D plans to release it this week unless something 'funny' happens so we'll just have to wait a little longer i'm afraid.

Again, Fresh3D wil continue working on Outcast v1.1 after it's release so who knows what updates will come in the future. Perhaps even the visuals that were shown in the Reboot HD version...or perhaps the skip ahead and start working on Outcast 2...
