Uhm... strano il 640LTE Vodafone di mia suocerà fu aggiornato da secoli a W10M. Dagli 24h di tempo e cerca nuovamente da solo gli aggiornamenti da Impostazioni.

• Lots of reliability improvements for VPN connectivity in Windows 10 Mobile.
• IKEv2 Sleep and Power Enhancements. VPN completes all pending actions before sleep and disconnects.
• Automatic reconnection on resume.
• Force tunneled improvements for UWP platform.
• Proxy improvements for UWP VPN profile.
• Enabling MMS usage when VPN is connected.

New Fixes and Improvements:

- Fixed an issue resulting in an unexpected extra ~20 sec being added to the phone shutdown process due to a deadlock if you tried to shut down soon after switching from one network to another.
- Fixed an issue with the Glance screen where the time was not updating.
- Fixed the token issue so when your device syncs to the service, text messages should show back up.
- Fixed an issue where the Battery Settings page caused the device to become unresponsive and appear to have hung.
- Fixed a general issue where certain background tasks were being incorrectly starved under resource contention. This issue would impact music and video playback.
- Under low memory conditions, additional app launches will cause the OS to run out-of-memory and the device will restart unexpectedly to recover. This fix detects the condition and blocks app launches until memory is freed up.

- Fixed an issue where the word auto-correction service would crash.

- Fixed an issue where the Call audio did not move to speaker after removing the headset on some phones.

(è un'app così semplice che non capisco perché tale funzione non ci sia di default su W10M e W10)

se non riesci a trovare l'aggiornamento, ti conviene sbrandizzarlo con il Windows Device Recovery Tool da PC e poi riprovare con la stessa app

Dunque puoi (anzi qualcuno raccomanda) di tornare a Production ed il tuo 640 si comporterà nè più nè meno di un 950XL: prenderà ogni mese il cumulativo aggiuntivo, per i 2 anni di supporto promessi alla 1709, ovvero Autunno 2019.
Se resti Release Preview pure dopo, puoi beccare anche app che vengono rilasciate in anteprima (leggi: Foto, Skype) di qualche giorno rispetto agli altri.
Dipende da te.

Vorrei accedervi solo da smartphone e mantenere una certa stabilità su PC...

è da un po' di tempo che mi capita una cosa strana, soprattutto nel player video (nelo momento in cui passo da orientamento verticale ad orizzontale) ma soprattutto in edge: lo schermo si divide a metà e mentre una parte continua a scorrere, ad essere modificabile da input, l'altra resta ferma, bloccata all'"immagine iniziale" e non modificabile. Succede poi che lo schermo si spenga, che il terminale non risponda ad alcun input (neanche alla pressione dei tasti fisici).
Cosa succede secondo voi? Soft reset non cambia niente.

Sono andato in Impostazioni/Aggiornamento e sicurezza/Programma Windows Insider;

fatto click su:

1) Per iniziare

2) Registra

3) Registra il tuo account personale

4) Mi dice "Bentornato! Hai già effettuato la registrazione per il Programma Windows Insider"

5) vado su "Installa Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview"

6) ma mi ricompare "Per iniziare" da cui al punto 1) e mi fa rifare tutto da capo (senza possibilità
di scegliere il livello-anello Insider desiderato...

Era successo anche a me tanto tempo fa che andava in "loop", senza mai farmi accedere alla schermata successiva di scelta del canale: mi confermava che ero registrato e poi quando andavo avanti diceva che non lo ero o che il mio dispositivo non era supportato, ecc.
In realtà quello che succede è che il sistema ci mette tot ore prima di vederti come Insider. Una volta mi è capitato che in 4 ore sono stato visto, un'altra volta ho dovuto attendere 8 ore.
Non ti resta che attendere domani
