Secondo digitimes Nvidia starebbe
pensando seriamente di uscire completamente dal mercato chipset per piattaforma AMD e Intel.
La causa è da attribuirsi alla incredibile freddezza da parte dei produttori di schede mamme riservata hai nuovi chipset Nforce 7 sia per AMD sia per Intel.
AMD ha intenzione di presentare la nuova serie di chipset chiamata RX/RS800 nel 2009 basati su socket AM3; già qualche mese fa alla presentazione dei nuovi Nforce 7, Nvidia ha specificato che i suoi nuovi chipset sarebbero stati compatibili con il nuovo socket AMD, ma dopo queste dichiarazioni alcuni analisti prevedevano che la serie 7 di nvidia sarebbe stata l'ultima per piattaforma AMD.
Se fosse confermata la notizia la tecnologia SLI avrebbe un futuro molto incerto, un ipotesi non troppa remota è che Nvidia conceda il suo supporto multi-GPU ai chipset ATI/AMD mantenendo viva la competizione...
Ce da considerare che AMD con la creazione delle piattaforme tipo "spider" ha messo la parola fine allo strapotere di Nvidia sul mercato delle CPU AMD ( grazie anche all'incredibile ritardo di ben 6 mesi sulla presentazione della serie Nforce7 ); inoltre altro elemento importante sono i prezzi dei chipset AMD relativamente più bassi della controparte Nvidia...
